Help with heatsink!

I have a opteron and a k8 motherboard, I put on the heatsink right but the clips wont fit, what do I do? = (

You should have some like metal clip running through the middle of the heatsink?
You push down the one side without the little handle and hook it onto the catch. Then push down and hook the otherside onto the other catch.

That's how i put mine on :/

I did, one side comes down but the other doesn't reach.

And yeah its a latch, I tried hooking the non hooked first and the hooked one, but either way it doesnt reach

It's a really tight fit. And i had to take mine off and try it the opposite way and it fit. But i think you need to reapply the thermal compound though if you introduce it to air. Not sure on that one. Just keep trying.

It says to force it down, but I am afraid ill break the plastic holders.

I am trying to force it but no avail = (

Ren , I tried the other way, same thing. They seem equal on both sides, do you have any ideas how I could force it down?

Some of the later AMD heatsinks have a plastic lever that you need to pull up, then the hooks fit over the tabs on the mothboard loosly. Then push the plastic lever down to tighten the assembly. That's how my amd 64 was - no forcing or prying required.

I had the plastic lever on mine, but i still had to force it down.

I had to apply no force whatsoever, except for getting the switch back in its place, and that was pretty easy

i once got a heatsink on without realising i needed to use that lever.. nearly broke the mobo

Glad to help! Luckily you don't have an older AMD model like the athlon xp, I had to bend one of those heatsinks on with a screwdriver while putting a scary amount of force to it. Amazingly I didn't crack the chip core but many people did with that lever-less model.

Yes. Without it the heat wont transfer from the CPU to the heatsink. The CPU will most likely fry if you don't get the heat away from it.

Well at least I feel a bit better for humoring someone. I looked on the web and all of these "apply force and/or bend" made me a bit scared.

I didn't have any glue to apply on, it was like a pad or something.

At least it went well, whew.
