I was wondering if anybody could give me a hand with my helo flying. I can do basic things like just doing circles and stuff, but I can't stop and hover, or land. I really suck at flying helli's, but I always see people with some awesome flying moves claiming that they use good 'ol mouse and keyboard (Mr.Redundant and Q_onfused) which through out my idea of buying a joystick.

Please help! I don't want to be grabbing "disposable helicopters" for parachuting over bases forever!

I added you to my xfire. When you get it we can mess around on an empty server or something.

I personally use the keyboard only. Left hand on WASD, right hand on arrow keys. The arrow keys are better in my opinion because the mouse is too free form, especially for beginners. What with all the different angles and moving it at different speeds, it's all too advanced. Arrow keys are definite.

If you want to stop and hover, hold down on the arrow keys to pitch backward, thus stopping your forward movement. And vice versa. It's easy stuff.

Alright...I can fly helis like a pro...I can land on pretty much anything flat.

Here are some tips.

Don't be afraid to use your throttle, I drop it all the way to zero when I am coming in for a landing...drop it to about 50 when you get semi near just to slow down.

In order to hover, set the throttle to about 29%(depends on helo). After that make sure you are level and you will just hover there, it is great for capping flags and staying higher than the spec ops can throw C4.

Just fly a lot, I use a joystick and will gladly go into a server with you to help you more. My Xfire is Glirk.

When you want to hover, keep the rotor level with the ground and take your hand off the movement keys. All you have to do is adjust the mouse so that the bar is in line with the "W" on your crosshair, and you'll hover. To land from a hover, just decrease your speed with your backpeddal key (S by default). You'll want to tip the bar slightly above the "W," keeping the nose up just a little. Not a lot or you'll go backwards.

Landing from moving is pretty much the same; decrease your speed, lift the nose a little, and touch down.

Hehe, thanks!

Um, actually, what I do to land is head down into an open area kind of tiped forward pressing the S key. I come in at some speed, and bounce a little and sometimes take some damage (1 bar) but it's faster/easier for me that way.

Before I used to lean back a lot and press S... that just left me way up in the air vulnerable.

Amish gave me allot of help with my flying. I think i'm getting better, hehe. I did my first ever successfull landing, and did it again ontop of one of the peaks in "Operation Clean Sweep" because my helo was about to explode. He also showed me how to change mouse sensitivity for specific vehicles (I always was under the impression that it was universal) and we had a bit of fun just flying around the map. I sorta got hovering down, but I don't like how the slightest move with send you off course. Still a bit to get used to.

But i'm happy with my progress. Thanks for the help guys.

Turn up Yaw & Pitch factor up to max also or you'll be at a major disadvantage in dog fights. (assuming they have them at max)
