help with server problem

I created a listening server and when my friend tries to join my server

it gives him an error saying that the servers not responding..

what am i doing wrong here

First guess is that you haven't configured your router properly.
Second guess would be that you have the server running in LAN mode.

i have a similar problem, i cant run a server on the net, only on lan, but its probably becase of my router.

Make sure the correct ports are unblocked on your Router and that you have sv_lan 0 in console.

Many people have had this problem since the beginning of time. You have only touched the top of the iceberg with regard to fixing this. Go to - www.portforward.com, and find your router, and HL2, or whatever multiplayer you are trying to play, and configure your router accordingly. It's no simple fix...

this sux...this only happens in source games..CoD2, and all other ganes works fine.
