Help with sound for movies

When I play a movie on my PC no sound is played, but the actual movie plays fine. I tried out a couple of movies and its the same problem. I know the sound works because it works for music and games. Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe the sound file is corrupt, or you may need to update your media player/codecs.

Or it could be a Pirate movie.
Check the software decoder you're using, and set the software setting to mix sound through hardware (If you have a sound card) or software (if you don't).
