Help with word

there's my problem. If you notice the date is on top of that circle, which isn't cool. The problem is I can't select the date or the circle or the line border. I can't ctrl+A it or drag on it, right click it, highlight it, or any other form of interacting I can think of.

I can't delete that box I put the date into because then the date in the lower left turns to "Please add a date"...which is even worse. The box I put the date in and the date in the lower left are connected.

I just need the date moved or deleted, I don't care which...I just want it fixed so I can fax this thing.

I gave up trying to figure out the 2007 version. I reinstalled 2003, simple, old school, gets the job done.
