I'm a member of IB (International Baccalaureate)..like an academic honors type thing...and while searching some forums i found a fellow IBer doing a paper about mods and their effects on teh gaming community...wanting to help him out, i offered to spread the survey around, so here it is:
Have you ever played Battlefield: 1942?
If so, how often do you play?
Have you ever played any modifications for Battlefield: 1942?
If so, which ones?
Have you ever played the Desert Combat mod, GI Joe mod or Galactic
Conquest modifications?
Describe what you thought of these mods and how they (individually)
affect Battlefield: 1942 in any ways possible?
Have you ever encountered cheaters while playing Battlefield: 1942 or
any of its modifications? Please describe the instances.
Have you ever used a cheat while playing Battlefield: 1942? Please
explain your reasoning and consequences (if any).
If modding became sufficiently simple would you:
a) Purchase a game of lower quality, to be able to create your game?
b) Improve the odds purchasing a good game to gain access to the mods
c) Purchase a game of lower quality to play other created mods?
d) Not purchase the game at all for fear of obscene or offensive content
being created by the user community?
e) Create cheat programs for that alter the game parameters, allowing
you to gain an unfair edge over other players?
f) Use one of those cheat programs?
How do you feel about users having a 'carte-blanche' regarding
modifications? (Social impacts, economical, technological, etc.)
All names will be kept anonymous unless otherwise stated. In the event
that I wish to quote somebody, I will ask for permission before hand.
This paper won't be publicized, but it will be read by members of the
I.B. (International Baccalaureate) community.
Please feel free to add whatever information you think would prove
useful. This thread isn't here to judge people, so please be honest.
And for those who feel like being ultra helpful, there are similar
questions life this regarding half-life (my other case study).
Have you ever played Half-life?
If so, how often do you play?
Have you played any modifications for Half-life?
If so, which ones?
Have you ever played either Counter-Strike or Day of Defeat? What did
you think of these two mods? How would you say they (individually)
affect Half-Life?
Have you ever played Half-Life and any of its Modifications, and
encountered cheaters? If so, please describe the incident(s) in as much
detail as possible.
Have you ever used a cheat while playing Half-Life or any of its mods
(such as the infamous 'Wall-hack')? Please divulge any details on the
reasons behind which you used them, and how it affected your interaction
with other within the game.
