help!

i just downloaded the big map pack vol1, is it ment to be a rar file?

if so where do i put it so i can play on the maps?

You'll need to extract the maps using a program like winrar. A rar file is basically like a .zip file.

As for where to put em, if there's not a readme.txt in the extracted files you'll have to ask or search.

and then extract it into your valve/steam/steamapps/username(yours)/hldm/hl2/maps

the file is called: halflife2_mappack_volume1

that file is a rar filie so i extact it with my winrar(which i just got) and its a folder consisting of the folders: maps, models, sound, materals, a read me file wich is no use(it tells you to put it in hlmp only) and scripts

In that case, extract it here:

valve/steam/steamapps/username(yours)/hldm/hl2
NOTE: Make sure that it has put the extracted files in the models/materials.. folders that already exist, and that it hasn't created a folder in the hl2 folder with the extracted files in that.

Basically so the model/sound/materials files that are in the rar archive go in the appropriate folder.
