i changed my screen resolution to 640x700 or something and then suddenyl the screen went black and it said : "Screen does not support resolution" and everytime i start Cs it comes up with this so i cant even see the menu or do anything! anyone have any ideas? any config files i could change to set it back to the resolution that will work?

In the MY GAMES menu, right click on HL2 and go to properties. A window should open and there should be a button that reads "Launch Optoins" click that and type this:

-width 800 –height 600

Just copy and paste that into the launch options.

that should do it.
