Hello, friend of mine got a computer for free from someone he knows and were lookin to make it good enough to do stuff.

Specs are:

Windows XP Pro
Pentium 4 1.5 GHz
256 MB RAM (this RAM looked to me as being RIMMS and not the usual DIMMS)
GeForce MX 440 64MB
Then like... a 320 WATT power supply

I don't know what kind of motherboard his system is running on so I dunno what kind of RAM it could support. I tested out some games on his system like Battlefield 1942 and it ran pretty smoothly, but then I ran Rome: Total War and... it wasn't pretty and ended up crashing out. He's willing to spend money so I recommend for him the good ol' RADEON 9600XT 128MB and probably buy a better RAM moduel of 512MB PC2700 or 3200. I dunno if his processor is good enough, it should be, but I do have another montherboard with a AMD 2100 XP which clocks at 1.7 GHz, or maybe just a plain new one would be best. Tell me what you guys think. :O

make it at least a 420Watt id say, incase you decide to get more HDs and other drives and a better graphcis card.
and chance u know the socket type? probably 478
i didnt even know the P4s went lower than 2GHz, i thought then it would be a P3

I'm not sure of the socket, but I am sure it said a Pentium 4 1.5 GHz, which I agree i've never seen before hehe.

320W power supply would be enough for my pc so I think u dont have to buy a new 1
u can check how much power is needed here. Ppl usually think that they need a big ass power supply to keep their system running nicely... they are wrong. If u deside to buy a new power supply dont buy some "noname" supply because they usually claim to have 400-500W and actually give only 300W out.
Anyway I would definetly get a better craphics card & more memory:) and maybe do some overclocking ;)
