Here is how to ban AWP & SG550 from your server

Here are the steps in order:
1. Login to FTP and go to directory: /root/cstrike/scripts/
2. Rename weapon_awp.ctx to banweapon_awp.ctx.
3. Rename weapon_g3sg1.ctx to banweapon_g3sg1.ctx
4. Rename weapon_sg550.ctx to banweapon_sg550.ctx

No Restart is needed. Anyone who tries to buy it will get deducated money but not get the weapon. This is for servers that have RULES about using AutoSnipers. Think of the deduction as a Penalty.

It's not harsh. The MOTD strictly says none of those weapons are to be used. Some people put "dust only no autosnipers allowed" in the server name as well. You'd be surprised how many more players come to our server knowing it's free from campers and autosniper kiddies,
 
people don't accept the AWP because they don't know that two smokenades make the life a living hell for the sniper...
 
The AWM is a normal weapon, it's part of CS so why ban it? It's like if I was whining "ban the ak47, because I'm getting headshots from it". And if you are CT on de_ maps or terro on cs_ maps camping is what you should actually do. The aim of this game is to win, not to get as many frags as possible. But if someone is on the attacking team and camps with the AWM instead, then ban the player not the weapon.
 
I liked call of duty far better without the sniping rifles, with just rifles and the other guns. More enjoyable in my opinion, nice to know there are some servers out there for CS:S with no snipers. People need to learn to snipe with weapons like AK's like me! =P
 
At the moment the shotties need to be nerfed a lot. Sniper precision and one shot kills. No bullet spread like in CS1.6. I use Shotguns to get a good score...and I'm a n00b :)

Because people only know how to abuse its power. And it spoils the fun of CS, try playing without any sniper rifle, trust me its more fun.

Exactly. As a server admin I have the make these decisions. My admins and I would sit in spectator and watch these kids who knew nothing about the game sit in the back of the map with an awp and make a shitload of kills. Times that kid by five and you got half of the terrorist and half of CT playing "hide and go seek".
Our server our rules right? Besides we've not had a single complaint. People enjoy our server because it's fast action. It's alot of in your face type stuff, and lots of fun, kinda fast paced.
 
It's easy to take out a AWP'er... But this discussion is useless. Go ban or do not ban. I will play on both :)
 
Anyone who is using the HOW-TO above may notice Memory leak crashes on their server. To fix it, download the three original weapon_xxxx.ctx and open in Wordpad to delete all the contents inside. then upload all three and overwrite.

Help ! I cant get this to work. We are running on linux server and ive renamed the files as above for the 2 autosnipers but ppl are still buying them ok ?
 
It's your server I guess, but I'm confused - can't snipers be flanked or outmaneuvered easily enough by a skilled player? These 'noobs' are, after all, giving up the versatility and CQB advantage of a AR for the 'reach-out-and-touch-someone' aspect of the auto SR. Once you close the distance . . . their advantage is gone.

I've spec'd plenty of servers and I see that the skilled players always find a way to bring the pain to autosnipers. And ironically enough, it's the people who just run blindly out into the open or around corners that keep crying about auto snipers. Sure you're gonna fall to one now and again, no matter your skill. But the same thing applies to running around a corner and meeting a well placed enemy in the 'second' place you glance at.

Kind of reminds me about how much people whine about flak in UT2004 or the auto-shotty in SOF2. I'm not any kind of CS god, though I've played plenty of on-line shooters. It didn't take me too long to figure out that using an auto-SR against good players ALWAYS resulted in my quick death. Maybe you just need to find some better players for your server? ;)

Skill always finds a way.

yeah the aim is too static, the way it is in farcry with wobbling is good, however we'll just have to stick with making their lives a misery :p

Good question - it's sort of a double edged sword. I know in BF1942 with ballistics and trajectory modeling the sniping got more difficult to the point where it took a pretty decent amount of skill to effectively snipe.

But the other side of the coin is that once you got an effective sniper working his craft, it was tremendously difficult to oust him.

CS doesn't have much of the wide open space that made BF snipers effective and countering them more difficult.

But what it could do in CS, is make anti-sniping much more difficult, so that it's less likely for a team to have someone who can counter the sniper in the next round if takes considerably more skill.

All sorts of facets to it, I suppose.
 
I agree with banning auto sniper-rifels becuz it requires no skill what so ever.
but banning awp?? becuz its one hit kill? then lets ban scout and shotgun too.

So sniping isn't skillful? Because I seriously suck at sniping, always have. But I don't have any problems killing a sniper either.

This whole "awp is cheap" and calling them noobs is stupid. If they can manage to snipe me, here's to them :cheers:

I've only died to a sniper maybe a dozen times so far. Most snipers I've met aren't that great, either that or I'm good at dodging bullets. I R TEH ONEZOR.
 
only losers whine about the weapons of the game or how people "camp". Get over it you whiney no good elitest server owning tools.
