Can two modems access one line at the same time ? I'm no internet/network genius, but i would imagine that if those points are both on the same telephone line then no, it wouldn't work. Only one connection can be made at a time i thought ? And if i completely missed the point sorry in advance !

I don't think you can do that, unless you had a second phone line to put the other computer on. Although you could simply wirelessly network that other computer to your existing network.

Basically the pcs downstairs could be connected either by cable or through a wireless connection and the pc upstairs would be connected wirelessly too. Just a suggestion, not sure if its ideal, but thats what I would do.

For each additional IP number they charge you extra (5$ a month perhaps). So by having 2 modems connected that is 2 IP numbers. Otherwise run everything through a router (wired or wireless) so it can let your PCs to talk to the internet through your modem using just 1 IP.

i'm thinking that he's right...

does that give you more bandwidth, like full bandwidth per modem?

I'm not sure what the limit the actual cable wire can take. I just know that they charge extra for the extra IP itself (not taking into account modem rentals).

I'd assume you would be sharin your bandwidth between both the modems.

You'll probably be cheaper usin wireless LAN as duffers suggested. . . . but hey, an additional IP address . . . that would kick ass. If your up for the extra charge that is.

If it's DSL, then it's still using your same phoneline and all. But if your only getting like a 1mbit connection for both then you shouldent loose any speed by getting 2 seperate connections.

I'd recommend actually asking the company.
