In my mind it's not an XCOM game if it's an FPS. It's that simple. That of course doesn't mean that it can't be a good game, I hope it turns out well, but it's blasphemy to use the name XCOM and then say it's an FPS.

What a HORRIBLE idea. This sounds like a horrific disservice to a great series, but it doesn't surprise me since so few publishers are willing to take a risk on new IP. This is the game equivalent of Hollywood remakes (which SUCK).

Even Renegade's SP was pretty fun, man.

Anyway, the point is it can't possibly be the worst x-com game (unless they really, really screw up). Could be fun. A Rainbow 6 (pre lockdown) style game could work well. Add in a between mission team management section and the ability to choose your fights on a strategic map, it could be great.

I mean it wont be that sort of slow, tactical game with selectable loadouts for your entire team, team members being killable/replaceable, won't have research that involves the player in any way, etc.

Sure, its going to be a dull, brown-grey, generic shooter with regenerating health, but until it comes out I can hope.
