Like thousands of people i'm at university at the moment and connected to the uni network. I bought the DVD version of HL2 today and because you have to frickin connect to Steam to register, it won't let me because Steam's ports have been blocked by the uni
So my question is why the hell did Valve put all their eggs in one basket by making Steam the only way you can register the product?!
I admire their stance on trying to phase out piracy, but if anything this is just going to encourage more people to get cracks etc because they can't even register in the first place. I can't believe Valve didn't create an alternative to Steam just in case shock horror not everyone could connect to Steam or it crashes..its just plain bad planning and it sucks
