Whenever I try to install a download ATI driver and restart, the first message that comes to my computer is that the ATI control panel could not initialize because there is no ATI Driver installed, when I cleary know that I DID install a driver.
WTH
The only time I can install a driver is when I install one from a disk I got with my motherboard.

Same thing happened to me... Assuming those are the 4.1's, as long as the driver listed in Device Manager has date 12/12/2003 and version 6.14.10.6414 they are installed.

No!err... I mean no... I have tried the latest one and the previous one.
And the only ones that work are the ones that came with a CD that reads: Drivers Ver:7.84

go to control panel\add & remove software\ uninstall all ATI software, reboot then reinstall fresh drivers. good luck.

What SHOULD happen, and what happened to me, is that after you install them and reboot, the control panel should fail to start, and then after that Windows should install the drivers itself. As I said above, if the drivers listed have that date and version number then the drivers did install; just reboot and the control panel will load too.

Okay, thanks guys...
but can you guys give me individual instructions?
I want to see different ways...
some of them are not working:(

The way I always do it, and this just happens to be the way they tell you to in the readme, is uninstalling the old control panel+drivers, rebooting, installing the new control panel+drivers, rebooting again, et voila, it works.

NYHoustonman-what did you mean by letting windows install the drivers by itself?

Afterwards (assuming you have Windows XP) at the bottom left it will say new hardware found, then proceed to install it.

i had the same problem with my ATI Radeon 9800xt, i finally got it to work after i installed the windows xp service pack 1, im such a dumbass

could this be your problem?
