I like what valve done to the sky clouds. Clouds look more realistic.

oh.. yeah i`m pretty sure their relase TF2 along with HL2.. That medic make me wonder!
 
I hope they improve the models of your allies (like the guy on the car), dont look all that great imo :eek:
 
Sweet, I like how they damaged some of the windows on the house. Rather then just making a box and slapping a texture on it. :)
 
I was just thinking. In the pic where the medic guy is on top of the car you'll notice that there is a wooden pallet leaning against the back end of the car. Now Gabe has said that wood would act realistically, meaning that they'll break apart like wood, float like wood, and (?)burn like wood...

What if you use the manipulator to hold up the wooden pallet in front of you like a shield. When the Manhacks come flying at you and hit the pallet, will they cut a hole through the pallet, or will the pallet just crumble to pieces?
 
TFC just isn't for some people. Personally, I didn't like it all that much because I like the less arcade-styled games. Occasionally I'm into them, but they don't normally hold my interest.

As far as the HL2 models in those shots... they look outstanding! The characters are very well done. To the person who mentioned the broken windows, note that they are all broken in the exact same manner. Coincidence, or laziness? :-P
 
Nice stuff, valve seem to be steadily releasing concept art to us, and I bet they have a stash load.. (the concept art looks like an artified 'render' of some sort, great job on that , its awsome). Even though people have been yapping on about the graphics, criticising it badly etc.. the game plot and playing time will surely be massive, with the development time envolved.... Its the quality in that department that time and time again determines the best games... and I really think that the graphics , reflections , refractions, materials,,. are truely the Icing on the cake.. .. and its a beefy cake.

hmmm. on closer inspection, that last pic 'concept art', is infact very very very very accurate for a drawing (not very sketchy, like the other concept art), if thats what it is . or a render/edited drawing. Im convinced its an actual area render using Source and a few effects are applied to give it a paintbrushy look,, hmm curious ... it would be intresting if someone started a thread to try and get others views. (valve are clever. making us speculate on an image,,:p, made to raise questions perhaps??)
 
bah. The painted on windows piss me off.. hopefully there will be high-geometry options when the game ships so not everyone has to look at textured windows ..other than that, cool shots :) Although the pic of the guy on the car is forever tainted for me because EvilEwok2.0 pointed out the sucky lighting in it :(

Don't worry, he was an idiot anyway. The lighting isn't that bad.
 
Yeah, lol, I know, I just watch that HDR video if I want to restore my faith in HL2's visuals
 
but for me it really captures the half life feel whatever pic I look at. memories:) lol,, remember though,, Screenshots are static, doesnt really mean much to me. ive seen some astounding shots. vids. one poor lighting shot .. or poor because his standards are set too high? :p

Well yeah, I don't like the painted on windows much either. But I'm betting that they're going too at least add normal maps or something to them in the finished version. In the barricade video there are a few of those 'flat' windows that have some sort of shader applied to them, and they don't look half bad.

To be honest I don't really think the new screen shot (manhacks one) is that good. It shows a lot of potential (the wrinkle in the running rebel fighter's shirt, the cool flying sparks, the amount of manhacks on screen at once), but it just doesn't really impress me. The textures look like they really need an update and the lighting (more like shadowing) on that car is messed up- the whole thing kind of 'glows'. If Valve cleans these up that'd be great.
I do realize, though, that we can't expect much out of only graphics. You look at how much happens in one scene (ex. friendly AI, physically simulated manhacks, people and car, sound and graphical effects, etc) meanwhile Doom 3 has trouble when glass breaks... where you invest your effort really shows.

I'm not to impressed but atleast the second pic appears to have FSAA on.

Geezuz. That's alot of opinion on a static screen shot.

Perhaps that the moment they snapped this frame, there was alot of gunfire and a bunch of really cool sparkx that 'lit up' the car.

I never thought of that... but you still kind of see it in the videos too where instead of looking like a light is cast on a surface, it's more like the light originates on the surface. I'm not sure but to me it wouldn't be that difficult to just tweak it to be more convincing.

Yeah.. I like to get as much as possible out of a screenshot when they come in such little squirts.

hhhmmm maybe it looks like that because of radiosity, although that should make it look more realistic.

I'm not sure, but:

1: The window frames bent back from the explosion.

2: A strider bullet that missed the guy. It's weird that it's purple-y.

3: Blood spray from a wounded guy hit it, I guess.
 
1 and 2 make sense Mechagodzilla, thx - you put more effort in than me ;)

However when I said bleeding I meant 2 textures bleeding onto each other for the crossing sign, take a look :p
