Hi, I'm new on this forum and I would like some help.
I used to have half life 2 but thanks to a ****up with Steam, I lost my account.

I'm trying to download the sound files from half life 2 from of friend of mine who has the game so I can put them into half life 1. I'm trying to get my friend to send me the specific sound file. Only trouble is, I don't know which file I should get him to send me.

I've already downloaded GCFScape. Can some body tell me where the sounds for half life 2 are located? Thanks a lot.

Probably in ../SteamApps/Source Sounds.gcf

I would check and make sure but I don't feel like quitting and restarting steam.

If it really was a steam error, surely Valve would help you out. Sounds to me like a banned account.
