I've been researching LCD Monitors/HDTVs lately, hoping to get one in a month or so. I've found one that I think I want, but a review says that while it is HD-Ready, it needs an extra unit to be able to receive HDTV signals. I really don't care about High-Def cable shows right now because my local cable company (and internet provider) doesn't have HD support yet.

What I'm wondering though is if this has any effect on, say, a game console? Could I plug my gamecube in through the component inputs on the monitor and have higher resolution (assuming of course the game supports it). Same goes for Xbox 360, which I plan to purchase at some point; could I just plug it in with the component cables and have HD game content?

These are probably dumb questions but I've never had anything resembling HD before so I figured I'd ask people who likely have. Thanks.

With the current generation plugging it into an HDTV wont give you to much of a differnce.

There will be a diffrence in Next-Gen. The textures will be blurrier on the non-hd tv's and things. On HDTV's it will all look sharp and detailed.

With the xbox360 you will need to purchase the separate vga hd cable, which will plug into the vga (d-sub) input on your monitor, and will allow you to play all xbox360 titles in high def. Older consoles will not benefit, they will still run at the same resolution as before.
