lol go for the gold :D

amd hey you can always use that as a normal map if it's too high poly

I will Shinobi, but the aim is to get as much poly detail in there as possible

Looks good so far, its hard to tell though really. Since its so basic atm.

Nice model, keep it going. :)
May I ask you where you got those blueprints from? or did you made them yourself?

*nudges Clarky* and if you do a really good job I'll show it to a mate of mine, he worked on the show and if you do a really really nice job of it then who knows, Zoic might hire you heh. But the original models were of a very high standard (only thing I liked about the show tbh ;))

plating added, more to go, just previewing hows its going to shape up, cause usually if a model looks ace with no maps, then the maps should just make it better, if thats done properly too.

Certainly coming on nicely... I still prefer the look of the original though cause im picky :D

:P. i like both, but the new one just struct me as way cooler, cause it reminded me of the carrier from homeworld, with all the turrets and flak fire.

Heh another homeworld fan :)

I've always liked that Chris Foss style of ship. But Homeworld was the only thing to get it right so far.. hmm, think I'll reinstall it now you've brought it up and have a game :)

I guess I like the original Galactica though cause its the sort of style I grew up with, the whole building a model by sticking bits of model kits onto it. I would think that was a great idea. I still do it sometimes but with CG now, pulling odd objects apart and sticking bits onto models

Where did you get the blueprints then? I found a few for the original series but nothing of the ship itself, just its interiors and some of the Viper's Could have been an interesting excerise building both versions of the Galactica.

Edit: Just found this http://www.cylon.org/bsg/1978-battlestar-model-01.html wow!

oh dear, that last model is insane !!

as for clarky's, it looks pretty damn cool, good start and keep it up...even if i dont know anything about Battlestar Gallactica :p

You don't know anything about Battlestar Galactica? *looks at clarky* you wanna "educate" him up or shall I? :)

The model in that link is amazing, I don't even want to guess how much work went into it, real model so no cheating.. brilliant work

There's also a FAR superior updated Cylon on that site too, much better than the one sci-fi have

HOLY SHEET! man that model is high detailed!

its looking a lot better clarky, you are a good modellers :D

looking really sweeet... what method you using to model it??

you do it Fenric ;)

Looks like that'll be another great piece. I love these model progression threads of yours Clarky. How about writing a tutorial?

good idea, id like to share my ways, perhaps ill give one when I construct the docking pods. or the Engines. we'll have to see.

thanks guys ;)

heres a ref pic im using, ill post the plan pics if you would like, a little later, ill keep u hanging Fenric :P

had to crop it, the image is far too large. , the none cropped image shows the whole ship

Yeah this 1's going 2 be a good 1 to watch. How long do you think it will take you approx?

yay!, :) lol. approx , cant say, my model is slightly modified, as the plans are actually concept plans, that led to the eventual design. I thought it would be more intresting to improvise a bit, which means it could take a good 3 to 5 weeks, of my spare time, which is around 2 - 3 hours a day. give or take a few days, ^ what I first said, :)

Hate to say this since I know the guys who made that but... Anyone else think Clarky's is perhaps.... better looking? *gulps* thats my career over lol

Will wait and see how your textures turn out. It looks like the official one makes use of the IFW shader collection. So I guess its understandable if they went overboard, since they are very addictive shaders with tons of possible effects.. Damn cheap too considering the sheer amount.

Can't wait to see how this model turns out though. I know we've not got on much in the past but I'm impressed at the moment. Now GET BACK TO WORK ON IT! :p

P.S. If you decide to do the Basestar, pleeeeeeeeease do the original version not the starfish? pretty please with sugar and a free licence of Softimage on top? lol

The original Basestar was the definately the best.

A few things shocked me about the new Battlestar episodes, the amount of times people tried to go at it compared to the original, Starbuck not being played by the original character and the Basestars being different :frown:.

I agree with fenric, clarkys looks better then the genuine one xD

update :) , support section added. and more detail added.

Can you make a Star Destroyer? I love them! Nice model aswell.

Clarky, would it be possible that you could send me the .3ds file with the blueprints setup, i would love to give it go? That is if you don't mind :p.

clarky! don't give out your models, ever!

No offence Razor, I just think its the worst thing someone can do with their decent models, if one person wants it, then someone else will and so on and one will end up sending it to his mate and by then its too late. I know too many sob stories where guys did that and had others passing off their work as their own, and no way to prove they originally did it. It sucks :(

I agree Fenric, it would be nice to, but at the end of the day with a bit of learning how hard is it to make your own blueprint model, its really a piece of pie to set the blueprints up,. sorry Razor cant do. but I can put a tutorial together on a certain section of the Gallactica. if you would all like that,

this thing looks better all the time:)

Do you guys know that this forum is the best for other blokes helping other modlers out if they are in a bit of a fix with things.
I deffinatley wouldnt have gottern into modeling if it wasent for this site..(and CGtalk).but the insperation in here from other blokes is realy good.:)

Keep up the good work clarky m8.;)

in the last pic, havnt checked but its about 12 - 16'000 triangles, it will probably end up being something like a 60 - 80'000 poly model,

k guys this is where its around the 1/4 stage maybe closer to a 1/2, coming along quicker than I expected,

Here she is at the moment without her placement maps,(Gallactica5.jpg)

and here she is with her placements(Gallactica6.jpg)
