hi everybody!
i know there is many posts about hl2 crashes, but i didn't find any answer to solve my problem. HL2 worked very well on my pc but now im stuck at the beginning of Highway 17. A few seconds after i turned the buggy over and began to run away from the antlions, the game crash to desktop with no error message. This bug happened a few times in the previous chapters, but i just had to restart the game and continue from my last saved game. Now at highway 17, the crash occur at about the same time/place and restarting my pc and the game won't let me pass through this point. I close all other applications on my pc before playing(with alt+ctrl+del), video otpions are at their lowest settings, all my drivers are up-to-date and im with winxp pro. My pc is an athlon 1800+, vidcard a radeon 9600xt 256mb, sndcard pci128... Any suggestions what to do?
thanks!

somebody here? many viewed my post, but nobody answered me! plz help!!

Well, I had the same exact problem at that level starting getting into the dune buggy BUT I put more memory inside my computer right before! (256-512MB DDR) I got to that level and took it back out because it would constantly either freeze and put me back to windows xp or just freeze and I had to get out of the game other ways and it is working fine since taking it back out to 256 so I'm not sure if I am of any help whatsoever but there is a memory issue with that game for sure because my other games work perfectly fine with my 512MB RAM so I don't know what to tell you.

well if it's at the same place and time in the game it's probably some error with loading the next part of the level... I'm assuming... you might want to reinstall or something.

Try reloading the level using a map cheat code and see if it does anything different.

Go to Options-->Keyboard-->Advanced and make sure Enable Developer Console is ticked. Press the key next to 1 at the top left of your keyboard. That brings up the console, now type in:

map d2_coast_01

That'll load the same level with the problem. Maybe it'll help, maybe not. You can also skip the bugged level with a map code as well if you want:

map d2_coast_03

That'll load the next level after the bugged one.
