different patches? there are NO "diferent patches" for hl2 - only steam can update it, and it does NOT give you a choice of which "patch" you would like to use. you just busted yourself my friend. you seem 2 be trying 2 patch a pirated copy, because there are no "different patches" for the game. goodbye

Quiet Stewie.

Have you installed Steam?

EDIT Doh, obviously you have installed Steam. Just to be on the safe side, give me a screenshot of your control panel of your SteamID.

OK, a quick google search gives this error as fairly common, so there may be a few solutions on the net.

The most prominent one that jumps out at me is total formatting of the drive + reinstallation of Steam and all games... you might not want that one, but it seems to work.

/EDITEDIT I admit that the more threads I look through the more the words "NOCD" and "CRACK" are coming up.

nah its a legit copy bought it from eb when i said patches i meant c++ runtime patches

I know this is an old one, but I had problems with original HL2, included in the orange box. The exact same error. However, I managed to fix it via adapting somebody else's technique. Somebody else had this error with a mod called "The Ship" they fixed it by copying most/all of the contents in the "\steam\SteamApps\<Username>\<Game Name>\bin" folder into the "\steam\SteamApps\<Username>\<Game Name>" folder. (ie. the same directory that the HL2 executable is located)

I dont know what causes the error, but it is worth a try to fix it. It worked for me, so I'm guessing it will work with any HL2 mod.

I apologise for reviving an old topic
