HL 2 Video Card Problem[6600 GT]

Ok so I installed the 6600 GT........great card ..yatta yatta


Except now I'm having problems with the games graphics.

Here is the example. When playing HL2 once in a while there will be streaks that come across the screen by the hair trigger. Its getting to be a big ****ing problem. I had it only happen one time in Doom 3 and a ton in HL2 and 3d Mark05. Seems like the direct x really sets it off.

Has anyone have any idea as to what the hell this is. What would cause steaking like that durning a game? I installed all the latest drivers and direct x as of christmass time.

I could possibly be a defect. But for now, try using driver cleaner and re-installing your drivers. I know that my first 6600gt was defective, it would only get 10fps max on anything that had to do with OpenGL or Direct X. Then I RMA'd it and got a new one that gives me 50+ frames with no graphical issues.

Well I tried driver cleaner pro last night. Results are that it the streaking didn't happened as much.....maybe twice for a split second or two.


Now when I come to think of it fellas.....I'm starting to think this might not even be a video card problem. I remember some slight problems with direct x on my old 4200ti before that was similar to this. No where near as bad, but I remember doing some 3dmark test and having some slight problems

Another example guys is when I got HL2 last Nov and using my 4200ti I tried putting the graphics at high and all the graphics were streaking...ect.

This could be a motherboard problem?

Install your 3rd party motherboard drivers. That fixed my probs, even though they were dissimilar to yours in the streaking, but I got constantly low fps.

I have the 6600 gt, AGP version, and mine runs fine, i even have it overclocked, with forceware, version 71.20. and mine runs fine, no glitches, but everyonce in a while i will get low fps, like 10-20, for some reason, nothing special is happening, but usually i get like 50-100, 40's at the lowest....

Try downloading the forceware drivers if you can't find any other problems...

Looks like a graphics card problem if you ask me. But test it in other games to see if you can get similar problems. If not then verify your HL2 cache files by typing steam:\\validate\220 in your internet browser just in case it's related to the files for the rendering engine being corrupt.

If that doesn't work then update your mobo and graphics card drivers. If that doesn't work then I'd get the graphics card exchanged.

I have a 6600GT and I used to be getting the same thing but it turned out it was a driver problem.
