HL:S Sooner than HL2?

I got the Silver pack of Steam witch includes Half-Life 2, Half-Life:Source, Counter Strike:Source, and Day of Defeat: Source.

Does anyone have a feeling that Half Life Source will be avaialbe for download/install/play Before Half Life 2 comes out? I think its gonna come out before Half Life : Source. Would be great.

I dont know if they would release Half Life : Source before Half Life 2. But if they did I wouldnt be able to play it since I didnt purchase it off of Steam :hmph:

Trust me, it won't be anything like HL2 graphics wise, physics wise effectswise or immersion wise. But it is Half-life so you're garuanteed a good game.

SMT might be right about the legal thing. Remember that HL1, unlike CS:S, is a HL property and therefore VUG gets some control over it. Non-HL games, though also published through vivendi (CS and DOD), I think have a different deal.

Having no proof that they wont is not proof that they will. Unless you come up with some hard evidence, both views are speculative, and yet you're stating yours as fact.

Sure would be nice to get ahold of HL:S sooner. I think that the release of CS:S is Valve's tease until HL2 comes out. I think this is all we get until HL2 comes out.

Personally, I'd rather play through HL again before playing HL2. I think Half-Life Source would be the perfect motivation to play it again.

Is anyone going to do a movie marathon type thing? First play halflife straight through than segway into halflife 2? If halflife source was released before halflife2 you could start halflife source just in time to be done by the release hour of halflife 2.

It seems to make sense that Valve would want to release HL:S prior to HL2. It would sure generate more steam purchases and Vivendi would still get their cut. It makes economic sense to do it IMHO. I bet it will be out next Thursday.

Actually.. When you purchase your package.. There's an asterisk next to HL:1 source and DOD that say *to be released when half life 2 is released.. That sounds like a pretty good disproval of your point there cheif
