HL: Source textures

I think theyre for HL2 to make it feel more HLish.

Personally Id prefer to use them in HLS

They are re-makes of original Half-Life textures, made with the intention of putting them in HL:Source.

They're pretty inconsistant, since they're made by different people. Some will work great (nice HEV!), others I don't like at all. I guess we'll have to wait and see how they work in-game, once someone does whatever needs to be done for that to happen. I'd assume there's a lot more textures than that, too, so there's a lot more work to be done if all the textures are being replaced...

Yeh they are for HL:S, but the guys over there have kinda forgotten about it and it's died to be honest, shame.

Why aren't people making use of the new Source capabilities in the textures they're remaking? Otherwise its not much better than the original textures, just bigger.

Stick some neat stuff in them, normal maps would be nice.

Definately.. it's almost not worth doing if normal mapping isn't taken advantage of.

Looking at those again.... what's with the polished timber crate?

Why would there be video's of me about?.. Besides your probably underage to view those :p

HL2 uses materials, think of them as like a mix of zip, tga and some extra code. So instead of it being simply an image, it contains a bunch of images for creating the various effects. It's much neater method than having 5 or so different image files per texture.

It's not a zip file though, before people get the wrong end of the stick and start PMing me saying they can't open it, or some smartarse replies to correct me lol

But where are the textures then? Built in the BSP?

I thought TDE was a shortcut for texture displacement, obviously its your name, duh azz0r

Haha very true that, the control over it isn't that great but atleast some smartasses in the community will figure out how to use it for advantage
