HL2 Activation through Steam. How big is the file?

The question is simple. How big is the download required to activate HL2?

I dont think its that big, what takes time is unlocking the files (if it was preloaded) if you dont have to do that. Then I think all you have to do is tie it to your steam account and your off to the races.

OK, so if I buy a retail, I just install Steam, and register the HL2 CD-Key with it, and then I download a small file to activate?

The unlocking of the files made me want to cry it took so long, what comes after that more than makes up for it :cheers:

There were a few megs of HL2 final downloads I'd say. With a decent broadband connection, they'll be done long before the validation/unlocking finishes.

How long DOES it take? I had 15mins this morning to unlock and take a peek before I had to leave for work, but the download only got to 82% and seemed to be inactive; I remember a number of the preloads did just that.

I decided to cancel it and shut down, hopefully it will decide to work for me when I get home later tonight ... in another 6 hours ;(

Yeah, the thing is, I don't have broadband, I can only connect through my phone

I have a cable connection and it took about 10 minutes to unlock CS:S and HL2...maybe a little less.
