both games, Half Life 2 and Counterstrike: Source, dont get passed there loading screens.

i have posted in other forums that support with computer problems. I have looked into my computers details and the forumers have seen that there is nothing wrong with my computer.

I was wondering if any of you know about how to fix this problem.

The following error messages come up:

Failed to lock vertex buffer in CMeshDX8::LockVertexBuffer

and

The instruction at "0x7e1f9af3" referenced memory at "0x7dc48950". The memory could not be "read"

These come up on the desktop. But when i go into event viewer, Control Panel> Administrative Tools> Event Viewer> Application. it comes up with two more errors:

Hanging application hl2.exe, version 0.0.0.0, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000.

and (10 seconds later)

Fault bucket 34341278.

p
lease help me. Thankyou in advance

Try making games run in Direct X 9 if your computer is so ass-kicking.

nice at retro dx 8

The little remark from Rabarber gave me an idea.
I started hl2.exe with the -dxlevel 80 flag.

worked just fine. No HDR but fine.
Try It too and let me know if we are still working around the same problem.
