Hl2 and VMware fusion? any problems

I'm going to try and get Hl2 or any half-life game on my brother in laws laptop using VMware fusion. I'm not sure but I heard it's hard to run HL using a virtual machine because it needs certain drivers taht virtual machines lack. Is VMware one of those that lack the drivers?

3D acceleration doesn't work in VMware. :|
