Hi, everyone. I've had HL2 on this computer for a long time now, and recently I've run into a very odd issue. I can't change the video settings from the game option screen without causing the game to stutter for as long as I play it thereafter. What's worse is that the game is defaulting my video settings to lower than "recommended" and it won't "remember" when I set them higher.
So if I load the game and play it, everything works great. But for whatever reason, the game keeps loading with "low shadows" and "simple reflections" with everything else on high. If the change the settings AT ALL, even to make them lower settings, then the game goes into "stutter mode" for as long as I play it.
So my question is, is there anyway to change those specific video settings in a config file so that when I FIRST load the game, it is already set to "reflect all" and "high shadows"? As long as I don't have to change those setting while ingame, I'll be fine.
My computer's more than capable of the absolute highest settings at 100+ framerates, so there's no good reason why it keeps defaulting to simple reflections and low shadows. Even in the options menu, the star (*) is next to the very highest settings, even though the stubborn game won't load at those settings.
Thank you very much for your time.
