HL2 cannot minimize

Every time HL2 minimizes, the whole screen is almost black and the start bar is halfway up the screen. It stays like that until I Ctrl+Alt+Del and kill the hl2.exe process. I have 1gig of ram and video card is GeForce FX 5200. How do I fix this so I can actually minimize HL2?

Try the windows key, thats how I minimize any Steam application. Alt-tab doesn't work too well.

Er. What if its forced minimized, like another app is focused? I can't control that.

[EDIT] Tried Windows Key. The start button was normal, but everything else was black. Oh and whenever I minimize it, I can never get back into HL2.

[EDIT 2] Tried same resolution ask my desktop. Now I can see everything, windows open etc, but it quickly switches between HL and the focused window. It hurts my eyes it flashes so much.
