HL2 CD Can't be read

I just went and bought a HL2 about a week ago. I came home to install it and my cd drive wouldn't read it. Ok, ill get another one and put it in and try that. Still nothing. Can anyone help me out, or better yet let's skip the cd part, does anyone have a direct2drive account with hl2 on it that I could use briefly? Any help is appreciated.

You bought the DVD version - go back to the shop and get the cd version

try just inputting your CDKEY to steam and downloading it instead

It's worth a try but apparently the retail versions prevent that - the cd is necessary to authenticate purchase

Yup.. you broke into the HL2 box inside the store, stole the CD key, and fled.

Really? I bought Retail and that wasn't necessary...

Better yet, if that is the case, buy a DVD reader (at least), and join the rest of civilisation in the 21st century...
