Not a good idea on my first post but yes I ADMIT...until two days ago I was playing HL2 single player I didn't pay for and was not connected to steam. MY APOLOGIES!
Here's the problem. Now that I went out and bought it legitimately and registered and running steam they game runs like crap! Before I was running it no problem on my 2005fpw widescreen at 1680x1050...smooth as butter. Now with the exact same settings connected to steam it is uplayable at that resolution because of choppiness. This goes for HL2 sp and CS:S. If I turn it down to 1280x1024 it runs fine...but no widescreen.
What's going on? Is steam that much of a drag? Now I'm wondering why the he77 I shelled out some cash for it when the legit version runs worse!
And don't say "turn down the settings," I should not have to do that considering its been running fine on the high res's before this.
My rig: P4 2.4c, 1 gig DDR400, 6800NU unlocked, WinXP Pro
Thanks for ideas/suggestions
