HL2 Coupon Scams - IMPORTANT

I've seen several instances of this on the forums and on eBay, so I'm going to address it here.

You may run across people selling the ATI-Valve partnership coupons that can be redeemed for a free copy of Half-Life 2 when it is released. Before you buy a coupon from anyone, you need to ask him two very important questions:

1. Does this purchase include the original barcode / UPC label from an ATI or ATI partner graphics card box?

2. Does this purchase also include a receipt for purchase of a qualifying model of ATI graphics card (9600XT, 9800XT, and X800 Pro are the ones I can think of offhand)?

If one or both of these two items are not included in the purchase, DO NOT BUY THE COUPON. Whether the buyer knows it or not, HE IS SCAMMING YOU. Refer to ATI's redemption page at http://www.ati.com/online/hl2. No matter if you're choosing to receive HL2 over Steam or by mail, you must send the HL2 coupon, the receipt, and the UPC label to ATI in order to receive your free copy of Half-Life 2. Mailing just the coupon WILL NOT get you a copy of the game.

In conclusion, don't throw away fifteen or twenty dollars for one of these coupons alone; I guarantee that you are wasting your money.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention that I already activated my code on the coupon through steam and they didn't ask for the upc code or receipt.

If you have the voucher and need to send it into ATI to get the slip with the code...then you need those things.

If it is the slip with the code on it (it comes in the mail 4-6 weeks after the above has been mailed) then that is all you need.

you do not need original upc or reciept to activate it to recieve it through steam....i know.....because i have a 9800xt and i used my coupon, heh.
when u activate through steam you also get the "valve premier pack" which is all the valve games....besides counsition zero but you get (hl,cs,tfc,dod,rc,) and HL2 when it becomes available.
so i was like what the hell why not activate it...
you only need the UPC and the orignal reciept if you want to recieve a hard copy of hl2 when its release. but when the game comes out you got to wait 4-6 weeks for shipping. yes i would of like a hard copy instead of steam dl but hey might as well support the guys at valve with steam plus hl2 will preload a bit before the game is released so you will have it when its released.
also if you go for the hard copy you dont get the premier pack with all the older games.

If you do buy a voucher off eBay, you must make sure the scratchy stuff hasnt been removed, because if someone has used the key under it, it is worthless.

the cache file will likely be larger than 1 cd...and the steam release is the same day as it's in stores. so unless you're trying to say that they'll be sold out for weeks, i don't know what you're talking about.

Same here but I checked the site and called them and they said they don't do an exchange at stores. They said you must mail the stuff in and you must wait 4-6 weeks for it...

Hell I just made a new account on Steam to use the new CDKey cause I already had the platinum pack... I mean it's not like I care that much about the box.. Most of them are thrown in my closet anyways...

And while you guys are waiting for the stores to open I'll be playing it at 12:01 the morning it's release hehehe
