In HL2 at the N.L.O. part of the game (where you arrive at the N.L.O. base right in time to shoot down some attacking gunships) I keep getting this error message within a minute or two of loading:

IVP Failed at ..\ivp_utility\ivu_vhash.cxx157

I've googled this error and it seems like the only solution people are offering is to validate the game files. I tried that, to no avail. I've tried starting from different saves and I've also tried uninstalling / reinstalling. Looking at all the complaints about it for other Valve games, I don't have much hope this will be fixed, but it's worth a shot. Here are my comp specs:

Windows 7 64bit
Intel i5 2.27 ghz
4 GB ram
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670

Yes this issue was common in L4D2 a while back but it got patched and fixed for most people. I have never seen it occuring with Half-life 2. IVP, for reference is the havok engine physics stuff. I'm not sure if it's going to work for you but some people recommend using the launch option -lv (right click HL2, properties, set launch options..., put it in there).

Since I can't find a single other case of this happening in HL2 before, we have to assume there is perhaps some kind of incompatibility on your end. Graphic and sound driver updates could help...otherwise it's a bit of a guessing game really. Do any errors come up in the console when you load the save file or up until the crash?

Well, I got the error to stop coming up by starting a new game in the chapter I was on. I'm not sure what happened, but thanks for the info and the suggestions. One last thing, can you tell me what the launch option "-lv" does? Thanks.
