HL2 crashes in chapter 1!??

Hi

i just bought the DVD-ROM versino of this game, and installations and everything worked fine..

but when i get to the playground in chapter 1, and enter that door in the building, screen fades to black and a Half-Life 2 sign comes up, and boom i'm in the main menu again...

i try again and press new game, now i can choose chapters 1 through 6, though when i press 2, 3, 4 or 5 it quits to the main screen again...

1 and 6 work though, 1 only works to the playground, but 6 seemed to work for quite a while!...

but, i don't want to skip 4 damn chapters...

what's up???

i've tried reinstalling steam and HL2... tried verificationof teh cache files!... i've updateded almost any driver i can think of...

what is wrong??

I have the same problem, although I haven't tried to access new chapters I'll do that now.

i have winXP PRo SP1... so it's not that, that's my problem!
