HL2 CS DoD vanish Poof!

Ok here is the deal. I install my fresh 5 cd copy HL2 download all up dates install CS and DOD and update all 3. Get on line play CS and DoD Play a level or 2 of HL everything works great frame rates etc etc..
The next time I reboot my pc all my HL files have to be re-downloaded. I made backups of CS and DoD and they are there but the actual games on steam are gone and have to re-downloaded. CS , DOD and HL2 patches.

I have two drives
C: 80 gig SATA 1
D: 200 gig SATA 2 Jumper set to 1

All games are located on my d drive. C holds only windows

Gosh I have fresh install of XP pro and I have tried 3 times and I get the same thing.

Have you set Steam to save data on your computer?

Does it not do this automatically? If not please help.

I would of thought having drive C as Windows only would cause install problems for several programs?

You may be right

It depends on how you are signing in. There should be a little tab to tick where you enter your username and password, labelled as "save data on this computer". Or it could be a windows FUBAR. Your choice.

The majority of programs will not complain about installing to another root.

I do the same with my C drive. It is the smallest at 38Gb, and I only install Windows related programs there.

The problem is I having to download the updates every time I play the dag gum game.
