hl2,cs:s won't start

i can't get any sourcee games to start.when i click on hl2 or any other source game i get the preparing to launch ... and then nothing the game just minimizes and disapears.no error message comes up.ive tried everything i can think of.all my other games work fine.i've done the hardware test and passed everything.

somebody please help.

Try deleting your Clientregistry.blob :
Exit Steam. Delete the clientregistry.blob in the main Steam folder and the platform.gcf file in the Steamapps folder. But make a backup of them first by copying them in another folder! Now restart Steam.

i already tried that a couple times.it doesent work.

i have the latest drivers for everything and the latest version of direct x.even a complete reinstall does nothing.:hmph:

Then I'm unable to help you. Sometimes it's due to faulty hardware (my clan leader had a faulty motherboard, which ultimately broke down), though.

i had this problwem for a long long time and thousands of threads kept sayin new ways but none worked. heres the thing. when i bought sims2 it told me it requiered directx9.0c and i thought i had it. but some windows XP remove 9.0c so, if you update your directx it will work.

When I am on my computer at my dad's, I cant get on any source games. It comes up as white, then closes down with no errors. I aint bothered since I use my brother's pc oh, and at my mum's it works fine.

so many people are having the same problem. i am having it too. my computer passes the system requirements by a mile! you would think steam would give a proper solution not just some crap that they put on an 'online support center'
