HL2: Dawn of the Dead OST

As you may know brisck1 is creating a HL2: Dawn of the Dead mod, I'm currently doing some sound design and music for the project, the artwork there is some photomanip's I've been doing when bored, or just seeking some creative impulses for the sound design.

Although early in development, I'm just throwing ideas together for now, hopefully a mix of some of the original film music (brisck1 knows more than me about the possibilties of this), some interactive music (though in same vein as Goblin/DOTD soundtrack), and some orchestral segments, just to give it a more cinematic presentation.

Sound - Design is fun, I will post some zombie-ish sounds soon - hopefully if I can get hold of some voice actors for the project, then the sound will be fine, though due to some sonic jiggery pokery (that's a technical term btw), I can use source film sounds (or just about anything) as a carrier signal to my synth, making totally new zombie-esque sounds.

It's a technique Ben Burtt uses on Star Wars (yep, I'm stealing from the best), in fact a lot of my inspirations on sound design for this project come from Star Wars.

Anyway, hope you enjoy the site, the piano track is a rough demo, as I'm replacing the piano sound as it kinda needs desperate rescuing with a stronger sound. But that's what demo's are for.

Thanks!

Yes. The banner looks like it's for a movie. Nice banner.

I like the banner, the ideas, the movies, and the music.

I'll be paying close attention to this one.

What program do you create music with? (and where do you get those samples? drool)

I use Reason 2.5, costs about £210 here in the UK at the moment, it now ships with an orchestral sample pack add-on, which used to retail at around £60, as well as an 'Elektromechanical' add-on which is a great addon, full of organs and electric pianos.

I've you're familiar with Fruityloops, think of it as a more professional step-up from that. The Prodigy have apparently made their entire new album with Reason (I find these kind of statements misleading most of the time, but their endorsement is great all the same).

Though the best thing about Reason, is just the support, you can download gig's of free samples and patches from places like reasonstation.net as well the reason site itself.

I polished the tracks up in Cubase, as Reason doesn't fully support VST, just a bit of eq, compression and limiting and voila!

Hum, What banner ?

The site has been changed to...something odd...and scary :(

There used to be a nice big red banner that looked like it could have belonged to an actual zombie movie.

yes indeed I did create all the pictures myself, I used some stock art from deviantart.com and went to work on making some kick-ass zombies ;) BTW, have sorted some great new zombie sounds, I would post some tonight, but the pub is calling me...expect them tmrw for sure. They're far less demonic, I believe 'raw' is the operative word. ;)

they are really good mate well done! You really seem to know what a zombie should look like. You could be a great help when it comes to painting zombie textures ;)

thanks for the compliment, btw it seems like the zombie genre is getting pretty populated

Asylum Entertainment now own the gaming rights to Romero's Trilogy. eep.
