I d/l'ed the HL2 demo, installed Steam and everything, and slept overnight as it updated the game files.

I wake up to HL2 being 100% ready, yet when I run it, it goes blank then drops me back to Windows.

File integrity seems fine and everything, though it says nothing after the test.

I know the demo should run, I did have the full game last year and it ran fine.

Please help me - what's going on?

you do know all the demo is is just the ravenholm level

how do you guys he allready has hl2???

Anyway, post your specs please.

what =/

Also, Giant double posted and also, i have the same query, why are you downloading the demo if you "had" the full game, what happened to it ?

"I did have the full game last year and it ran fine."

The trick is to read between the lines.

That is the typical reaction I expect from people on this board. I earnestly ask for your help and all I get is sarky comments about my previous ownership of the full version of the game which I then lose, probably through no fault of my own, although none of you think of that DO YOU!?

True, I did get rid of it out of spite of Steam (nothing to do with HL2 itself), but since my recent good fortune with Steam, I decided to give it another go, but wanted to remind myself of it first before investing the £20+ needed... again.

But nooo - in almost ten posts, none of you have given me any constructive feedback about how to solve my lack of HL2-demo-enjoyment, just had a go at me for being what I consider to be in your fanboy eyes some kind of TRAITOR to HL2 for abandoning it in the first place.

My God, are you so rabid against anyone who says the same thing about your gaming nirvana!?

ALL I want to do is play the DEMO!! Is that too much to ask?

I am now, officially ... upset ;(

Sorry Drackard, but I don't mean to be rude.

My system specs are:

AMD Athlon XP 1600+
512Mb RAM (dunno which type)
90+Gb HD
nVidia GeForce FX 5200 (I hear this sucks but I don't mind)
MSI Mega180 Mobo

I don't see why I should provide my system specs when I ran HL2 perfectly fine on this very same machine!

Now, I don't mean or want to "label" anybody in a political sense, I just need help with this - can anyone provide it?

Ere mate if u dont supply us with the system spces how the hell can we figure out what the problem is, its all well u knowing what ur system is & that it ran HL2 b4, were not psychic. If u want help i suggest u lose that attitude.

Yes, you're right, Lister - I apologise. I've noticed the rest of you post your sysspecs for the slightest thing wrong with Valve games, I guess I'm just not used to that sort of thing.

Scan for spyware, virusses, ...

AHA, i knew there was something i needed to do this weekend, cheers Insano

P.S. Sorry for going off-topic

Sorry but how did you lose it excactly? If it's on your Steam account it's with you permanently. Unless you are banned that is.

Well you can "un-tie" the cd-key from your Steam account, but you have to pay Valve to do this.

dude were not ragging on you for losing the game, just wondering why the hell anyone would want to play the demo is all

Possibly because its set in one of the best if not The best scenes in the game.
