HL2 Episode One not responding

Hi,

After the usual Steam update today I resumed Half-Life 2 Episode One towards the end of Chapter 3: LowLife.

Following some frantic activity we managed to board the elevator to the surface. At the surface, before we exit the elevator, Chapter 4: Urban Fight starts loading for 15-20 secs, but never completes. I bring up Task Manager and find that Half-Life 2 is 'not responding'. I am able to End Task at that point and return gracefully to the desktop.

This behaviour is consistent and consequently I am unable to progress further with the game.

I have tried rebooting and also rebooting into my simming and gaming hardware profile with minimal services and background tasks running. Still the same result.

This is proving to be most frustrating. The game ran fine up to this point. Can anyone help, please?

Thank you.
