HL2 Error 1335 .cab problems

I cannot install anything .cab from any game. So therefore I cannot play HL2! How can I fix this?

I have this same problem. I've yet to find a way to install the damn game! HELP!!

Pillar, your suggestion about deleting everything Steam related didn't work for me. I'm still getting error 1335. From what I gather, error 1335 is different from error 1334. I keep getting the latter, which says this:
Error 1335. The cabinet file 'hl2.cab' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package.
