Hey,
I recently bought a new computer, and am finally able to play HL2, so I bought it and it is awesome...
so long as I do not quite the program and hope to get to playing later...
On first game play, I could play for hours without a problem, but when I exit the program and then try to play again some time later, the game loads fine, until I reach a 'load' point in the game - whether a major transition, or a significant animation. The game just freezes, with various error messages, and then exits to the desktop.
I have narrowed it down to this because after the first incident, i restored the PC (using the backup disk - because not even system restore helped) and was able to play no problem... until I quit again (the second time around, I got much further than the first, so it wasn't a location-specific thing)
ANY HELP will be appreciated (i am using a dual core, and based on suggestions I turned one of the cores off, but that didn't help - but also the game runs fine on full settings, until I quit that is...)
It isn't a driver issue; i've contacted valve, to no avail, so if anyone has any ideas... PLEASE!!!
