i was wondering if anyone else has had the problems i am having with getting my copy of half-life 2 to work. I start it up and it goes through one or two logo's and this comes up:
_________________________________
Half-Life2 DM: hl2.exe - Application Error

The instruction at "0x2406dd69" referenced memory at "0x0106facc". The memory could not be read.

Anyway, i have no idea what this could mean so if anyone could help me out that'd be great.

I have the same problem. I followed the link and nothing has changed. I have made sure all my drivers have been updated. Also, when playing HL2 single player, the "LOADING" screen stays on forever and I never get to play. CS Source works fine. ?! Any help?!

Me too

I have a similiar memory reference problem except it happens when i am playing single player mode. I did a couple thing which i suspect may be a problem but in reality they are just guesses. First i installed 512 more memory raising my total up to 1 g. The problem might be that when i downloaded HL2 i had a different memory stick in my machine. Secondly i installed a radeon 9550 256 which may only be a problem if HL2 expects to see the old GPU (a radeon 9200). If anyone can help clear this problem up for us poor people. I am sure that i speak for all of us when i say that i miss playing the game and i need my fix soon!! My cpu is amd athalon 3200+ with 1 gig ram and 180 HD plus radeon 9550 256.

Expecting an older graphics card shouldn't be a problem, other than setting you on lower settings by default. Having different memory in the machine does not matter either when you instaleed doesn't matter either. In terms of what is causing all of your problems, one possiblity is bad Ram. Try playing it with one of the two sticks in and if you get the error, switch out and try it with just the other stick. One of the two may be faulty. Regarding the LOADING screen that takes forever, you can turn off the real-time background by adding a command to your launch options (look around the forums, I've seen it recently). About the memory problem in general, a lot of people, including myself are getting the error. Hundreds of people. There are a few fixes around, including adding a few lines to your launch options:
+mat_forcehardwaresync 0 +snd_async_prefetch_priority 1
This only works for some people. For me, it increased my playabilty to crashes once every hour instead of 20 minutes. There are a few things other people have tried too, so look around a bit of these don't work and let me know if anything I mentioned isn't clear.

This did not work for me. Still getting the same memory error. :flame:

Ok, after a few more hours of searching, I got this to work:

Right click your Half Life 2 icon on your desktop (the one you would normally double-click to launch the game). Then click Properties. Click the Shortcut Tab. In the line labeled Target, you will see something like this, depending on where you put the program when you installed it:

"C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 22

Copy and paste the following AFTER the above line:

+mat_forcehardwaresync 0 +snd_async_prefetch_priority 1

Be sure there is a space between -applaunch 22 and +mat

Click save and you are ready to go.

Second location:

From the Steam Play Games Menu, right click on Half Life 2. Choose Properties, then click Launch Options. Paste the following in the box.

+mat_forcehardwaresync 0 +snd_async_prefetch_priority 1

Click Ok and you are ready to go.

Do the same fix for Half Life 2 Deathmatch and Counter Strike Source.

It seems to work fine, but there are a few audio glitches that I think that I can deal with considering the amount of time that I have spent trying to get this $52 game to work. :sniper: :flame:
