HL2 Glitch Riddle

Okay, this will probably not take most of you long to figure out, but I've posted some screenshots to my weblog that are a bit unusual.

1) I don't have any mods installed.

2) Other than Impulse 101 I am not cheating using any console commands.

So why are there these odd things happening in the first level of HL2?

I'm right here. I might be new to this forum, but rest assured that's only because I've just recently got HL2 via The Orange Box. If you check out http://www.peginc.com you'll see that in some places I'm quite well known and well behaved.

To make this clear: I didn't install a mod. I didn't make my own mod. I'm not using Garry's Mod BECAUSE THAT'S A MOD AND I'M NOT USING ANY MODS.

It wouldn't be much of a riddle if I did, would it?

The only console commands I used to get those screenshots are Impulse 101 and "map d1_trainstation_01".

Keep guessing.

I believe the regenerating is part of the map design.

You might be playing with the sound files deleted?

I'm guessing you put HL2 maps into Portal.

dude stop lying about not cheating of any sort. we dont know that something isnt happening because all you have is a still. if there were glitches in the game then im sure it has been found before. next time dont fail; instead post a video instead.

You copied d1_trainstation_01 from the HL2 GCF to the Portal folder. Got up to the ceiling of the main hall with the portal gun. Ditto regenerating health. Floors are shiny because of Ep2 engine funkiness; got the scanners behind that gate by gravity-gunning them through a portal. Flashlight doesn't work in Portal, most HL2 scenes and sound files probably don't exist in it either.

Riddle solved. No reason for you lot to be being dicks to him, though - giant384, do you have a -reason- to be trolling every new member on these forums or do you just not like people?

Now that someone's revealed the correct answer, I can finally post the follow-up on my weblog with some more Portal: HL2 screens.

mod = modification
Portal is a modification to hl2 when you put the maps into portal.

Funny, I thought a mod was when you actually changed the content of the game. I didn't do that, did I? I was thinking entirely within the box: The Orange Box, that is! :cheese:

Anyway, it's not a modification to Half Life 2: it's a modification to portal, if anything. Note that I deliberately avoided saying I was actually playing HL2. I'm really not using any mods in HL2 because I'm not playing HL2. That was a clue, geniuses.

And gee, even if we're going to define what I did as a mod, doesn't that mean Portal isn't a separate game at all since it's a HL2 mod? How about TF2? I guess that must be merely a mod too!

Now we can all argue until we all look really petty, or we can just let the subject drop.

Although this does make me wonder about what would happen if I copied the HL2 maps into TF2...

modifying is modifying dumbass

if you change the orginal content then that is modifying

Wouldnt work. OBox .bsp version is too high for good old HL2 and will crash the game.

You could give it a try with ep2 though
