HL2 Goty Edition - Can't install after 2nd cd !

Hello,

I recently purchased Half-life 2 GOTY Edition (Game of the year)
I have purchased the cd version(5 cds)

When I have started my installation from the 1st cd, it have installed steam from the cd shortly after continuing with the installation of half-life 2, it even goes perfect at the 2nd CD and then it says installation of the Half-life 2 is over !!!!

After it gets over, steam gets updated automatically.
So now steam id updated & perfect, I have an active account with steam.

Now heres comes the problem:

When I try to register via steam, I have been said that Please install half-life 2 before countiniung, stating the game is not even installed on my machine.

And I guess that a fact as only 2 of 5 cds are installed.

I have tried everything right from Re-installing to double check everytings great.

Please help me guys, its getting me crazy.
How the hell the 3rd,4th,5th cd gets installed ??

No idea at all. Go back and get a refund from the store. If you explain what happened, they will probably give you a new copy.

why dont you just put the cd key in steam, then download it off of steam?

I would prefer installing from the cds itself!
And i request all, please inform how can i install the game correctly via my cd rather than downloading the entire game through internet.

GOTY Edition users: At what stage the steam gets updated, in your case? After the completion of the 2nd CD OR after installing the last 5th CD ?

Also, have you selected everything? (HL2, CS:S, ...)
Sometimes it won't install if you haven't selected every game/mod that is available.

Yes,

I have not de-selected anything.
I am installing every compenent of the game, but the problem is that after reading the 2nd cd i am been informed that the HL2 installation is complete and shortly after that the STEAM update begins.

After the update whn i try to validate my game, me getting informed that please install the game 1st and then it can be activated !!

when i Run 1st cd to install, i get Msg stating HL2 is already been installed sucessfully !

All this, without even asking/touching the 2nd,4th,5th CD.

I wonder what kind of game/software this people have designed !?

My freind recently installed his GOTY with no problem.

Check the discs are not scratched, or your CD drive might need a firmware update.

Also if you have a spare CD drive around the house try that.

I actually enjoy downloading my games via Steam. I feel secure with it.

Other than that, I really have no idea. Never seen an install from the CD's D:

i took the CD back to my vendor, he tried, dint work, refunded the money.
Id suggest u too do that ASAP

Have you tried seeing what is on the third, fourth, and fifth cd's? Are there any setup.exe's..any install files? If there are none how about copying all the files on the "extra" cd's to the HL2 directory. Hope this helps.

I have already tried copying all the files from 5 cd's to one folder and then installing, but all in vain.

Yes, i have done it the same way, but all useless.
The files on the cd's are all CAB files etc., I had installed Steam to the default location and also to a new user designated location - In both cases the same problem countinues.

GOTY USERS: You guys have managed to install all the 5 cd's in one single stream(Countinously,ie., CD 1-2-3-4-5 ) OR it goes like the steam gets updated in the middle(after CD2) and then after the key activision the game asks to go ahead & install CD 3,4 & 5 ?

What is the install sequence ?

I don't know many vendors that have a PC on site ie Gamestop, EB, Wal-Mart.

And even if they did ie Best Buy..I don't know how many that would install & test on their machine.

Alot of times, the best you can do is a same item swap with a receipt.

I wonder if i am ever going to play this amazing game ?
