hl2 graphics problems

I have been getting some graphics problems when playing hl2 lately. I never had the problems when I first started playing and I am unable to match the problems with anything or with a start date. I have installed the latest drivers and I have tried turning down the graphics, but with no success

I have a 3.0 ghz computer with 1gb ram and a 5950U graphics card.

I am still having problems. I have checked on the connections to make sure that everything was secure and reinstalled the games and drivers with no luck.
