I noticed in the Ravenholm bink we get a chance to see what are (I assume) the redesigned health packs for HL2.

What are your opinions on the new design? I think it looks cooler, less like a first aid kit and more like a futuristic supply pack for 'automated medical systems'.

So, do you like the design? Do you think this will be a cosmetic change or would you like to see something else changed (more/less health from the packs)?

Sorry if this has been discussed, or if it should be in rumours and speculation.

Hm.. Looks cool to me. =]
I wonder what the wall units look like?

yehh they look cool. i wonder if they still make the same noise wen u collect them.........

Looks ok..
wow, im impressed for the first time since the 2003-trailer..

Who says thats a bad thing? (not saying that you said that it is a bad thing)

yeh the sound for the health packs was well thought out i remember timez wen i was on like 5 health and was jus waitin for that noise.............its jus like crackin a beer open !

I nocticed in the Ravenholm video that a lot of the sounds were the same in the original HL which makes me think that they are merely placeholders. For example the pistol sounded the same to me and the headcrabs (if I remember correctly). So we probably shouldn't take it as concrete evidence just yet.

he gets one in one of the strider fights from e3 2k4.

I've said it a million times: We need HL2 badly if we're down to the design of the medpacks.

On a more serious note, I like the new ones better than the old ones and thank god they kept the same sound. Wouldn't be HL if it wasn't the same sound :)

I wouldn't be able to pick one; I liked the shape and concept of the "old" ones, which looks "modern and polished", fitting for a state of the art lab. While these, they look more like make shift replacements, front line equipment. Not completely closed in a shell, but you can see "working parts". For me, it's a tie, as long as both are left in their own environment.

i bet they come in sizes.

like the old healthpack for small(or large)

Damn, if i'd known it had been discussed a million times, I wouldn't have posted. ;)

I like the new medpacks, I hope they have some more sounds for the HEV-voice too, I loved that 'Morphine Administered' sound.

they re-used some of the old sounds.... I like that

I wonder if we can give health to (NPC) team mates by picking the health pack up with our hands and throwing it at them.

Hey, you're stealing my trailer!... I like that.

(Sorry, obscure simpsons referance.)

I think it makes sense to be using some of the same sounds, I mean, a headcrab is a headcrab is a headcrab, it's not gonna suddenly start making a different sound.

Aha! But the zombies are certainly making a different sound now

Creepier sounds!

They already said they took the unoptimized source material from HL1 to recreate some of the more familar sounds, it may just be me but the health kit sound does sound alot sharper.

That's because we've shifted from 22Khz to 44khz.

Have a Very Safe Day. What I liked was that you weren't as alone as you could have been (there was at least *some* voice accompanying you), and above all, it was realistical, plausible, believable enough (compared to, say, Master Chief (Halo)'s companion. Which is fine in that game though. I'm just saying HL doesn't need a smart ally, the HEV voices just add to the atmosphere and can give you a slight breather when it's getting very lonely (in those sewer bits in HL I had that a lot)).

Uhm....ok, so to sum it up : All is well. :imu:

I read somewhere that they are using the same sounds (although updated somewhat) as they used in halflife, to keep the original feel of the game, from the first, into the sequel.

Edit : someones already said, sorry, i didnt notice the second page.
