hl2.ico1 not found?

Hey

When I try installing HalfLife 2, (UK DVD version), it gets almost near the end - then comes up with an error message 'hl2.ico1 cannot be found in hl24.cab, this could be a network error or an error on the CD-ROM'. However, looking in hl24.cab, its not there at all. It's infact in hl25.cab... This means the setup file must be looking in the wrong place. I can't understand how this could only be happening to me, as I tried it on another computer - wham, same thing. :angry:

If anyone else has had this problem, or knows a way to fix it, please help :sleep:

i know a few people are having the same problem...but nobody knows how the fix it...check the 'error 1334' thread a few of us are talking about it
 
Just select Halflife2 AND CounterStrike-Source for install.
For me it worked.

It's a pain if you don't want it but you have to install both CS and HL2. If you disable CS the installtion looks in the wrong cab for the files (the 1334 error is looking for files in hl24.cab when the files are in the hl25.cab)

Tried installing both -- but still won't work.

Just to be clear, when the install window opens there are two drop down boxes, one for hl2 and one for c/strike.

I can't change the settings in those other than to put a cross against the counterstrike entry.

Either way, with counterstrike checked or unchecked, the game quits with the same fatal error.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

installed the game onto new pc with no prior steam files.

It installed fine.

for me at least it seems this problem is something to do with incompatibility with existing steam files.

I think pillar12 said somthing similar. Kudos.

Tonite i wipe steam from my home pc and see if a clean install will do it...

Ok, this worked for me:

Uninstalled old vesion of steam and reinstalled the game - which installs steam first.

Bingo.

Install took 10 minutes, followed by 20 minutes unlocking the game files with steam.

i will say this : despite all the hassle, Half Life 2 rocks.
 
Yeah you just have to install them both, but make sure you've uninstalled everything first.
 
Half life 2 HL24.cab not found....

man i m having the same prob too i get an eror message relating to som,ico2 file not found in the Hl24.cab please help i treid ur suggestions uninstall steam and then install it by HL2 the game....mine doesnt install steam byi its self .....what do i do ? help .... i have steam installed and tryed to install the game but a no go please help me
 
my syeam already updated its self and when i restart the messanger nothings diffferant same old problem .cab file eror .... u think mabe i should burn hl2 into a disk and then play ? instead of deamon tools?
 
GRR NOTHING WORKS I GIVE UP!!! u guys goahead and enjoy the game .. ill enjoy it at my nearest compusa thats hosting the game on a pc of theors since i cant install it on mine ..GR!!! >-(
 
Wait, so how did you get HL2 in the first place?
 
I had this problem when I tried to reinstall HL2 after a hard disk format the other day. If I installed HL2 on it's own I got an error about hl2.ico1, and if I selected both HL2 and CSS I got a base_shared_sounds.gcf error or something similar. Nothing I tried could fix it and seeing as I had previous got it working on the same system I was sure it wasn't a hardware issue. On the off chance I uninstalled Windows XP Service Pack 2 from Add/Remove Programs... and guess what? Half Life 2 installed first time perfectly. This is kind of strange as I had previously installed it on SP2 with no problems.

Anyway, probably worth a try if you are really desperate to play the game.

Thx all who helped

I uninstalled my old version of steam and started fresh with the cd's and all worked great. Oh and by the way I was getting the 1334 error that ya'll are getting on cd 4. Keep trying, once I uninstalled the old steam stuff, rebooted and reinstalled fresh, everything works. Hope ya'll have the same luck I did.

Having the same problem myself . Ive uninstalled Steam - rebooted and tried to install everything fresh and nothing works . I've had to game now for 2 weeks and i havnt been able to get it to work . My next option is to do a reformat of the whole computar but i really dont wanna do that but if i have too i will

Anyways if anybody can help me out i would very much appreciate it

I've made throught that problem. ;]
Just little scripting.

Copy your first HL2 CD, or DVD on the Hard Drive.

Place This File in the main directory (Overwritting the old-bugged one):

http://rapidshare.com/files/108995601/hl2.msi.html

And feel free to install HL2 without signing CS:Source, and without hl2.ico1 error. ;)

That was really not so hard to make :D

I'm going to murder someone if I see another thread from 4 years ago revived!
 
But guys... I was having that problem NOW, and nothing from "today's advices" can help me. I don't think so I should start a new thread, isn't it?
