HL2 Install Error!?

I was installing hl2, and I was about finished on disk 4 when I got the error:

Error 1334. The file 'hl2.ico1' cannot be installed because the file cannot be found in cabinet file 'hl24.cab'. This could indicate a networking error, an error reading from the CD_ROM, or a problem with this package.

Any ideas?

It Took Em' How Many Years?

:flame: ok this is getting to be rediculis (dont correct that if its spelled wrong) they took forever to make thi friggin wonder game and now its out and we cant even play it. I got the same error and i bout threw my chit out the window. why do the good game never seem to work?

Solved this problem by installing the counterstrike section which shares some files . I had omitted that install part.

I read around this forum, and it appears people are saying that choosing not to installl cs, or having steam installed on your cpu before installing hl2 will cause this problem.

So the solution so far seems to be to uninstall steam then install hl2, or install css as well with hl2, or both.

I'd try one/both but I'm at school all day!!!

hmm i get the same error msg but because of the base source shared sound.gfc file instead of the ico file

i've tried uninstalling steam but then hl2 says it must be installed to install and it gives me an error both w/ and w/o cs:s being installed.

This always happens on my retail disc #4 and has occured on a dvd burner, a cd burner, and a dvd rom and in multiple computers
any help would be great thx...

Hi,

Just install everything, thus including the counterstrike source.

It solved all problems for me.

Mailed the tech support about it.
No reply yet, guess they too busy with all the bugs being reported

I just installed again, choosing to install css worked for me as well.

i selected to install css and it still doesn't work...but no matter i took it back to best buy, got a new version and it all worked perfectly yayayay

i am getting the same error, but i cannot install cs:s because if i chose to do so it wont let me proceed with the installation the disc just stops.
