Below is an email I just sent Vivendi Games UK, please read and see if you can help me before them???

[Dear All.

I purchased Half Life 2 on its release date (Nov. 16th). I have built a new computer to run this software,
and installed, played and enjoyed it very much.

Unfortunately at the weekend I received a virus, which made my computer refuse to boot. I have fixed this with a
completely fresh install of windows. Virus software shows no trace of a virus. The computer is set up, and installed with all the
same software and drivers as before, but when I go to install HL2, I now get Error 1335 - HL2.cab is corrupt, or after a bit of fiddling
with memory settings in msconfig, Error 1334 - HL23.cab is corrupt.

As you can guess, I am at my wits end, as the system is practically brand new, freshly installed, and has proved itself to work before.

My specs are as follows:

PC make and model - AMD 64 3500+
Graphics and Sound Card make and model - Sapphire X800XT, Creative Labs Audigy
Graphics and Sound Card driver version - Catalyst 4.12 beta
Operating System - Windows XP SP2, all latest patches.
Hard Drive(s) - 2 x WD Raptor 36.7gb in RAID 0
DVD drive - Sony DVD RW DW-D22A
Direct X Version - 9.0c
System Ram - 1024mb

As I can read the DVD, surely it cannot be the disc? The drive has worked before, and seems to be fine now, all other parts of my PC seem ok, and I am lost!!

PLEASE HELP !!!

yours, Ian.]

Any ideas at all??? AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!! :flame:

P.S. I have tried updating steam, but that makes no difference, and I have tried uninstalling steam to try again from scratch, but all to no avail.

How about you go to microsoft's site and look up error 1334 and 1335..I already know what 1335 is but you can look it up yourself.

I got error 1337 when I tried to install... Apparently my computer was to good to play HL2. Ok, bad joke. :x

Possibly you have memory issues (I have seen multiple problems happen at the same time before, and they ALWAYS choose the worst time to do it). Try running memtest86 on your system, to test all of the memory (it can be found at http://www.memtest86.com/).

If it gets to test 7 with no problems, then you are usually in the clear.

If that does not turn up any problems, then can't you download from Steam instead of using the retail CD/DVD that you bought. Just on the offchance that there is a defect or scratch, this could help get around those. Let us know if these worked, and if not, we can maybe come up with other suggestions for you to try (and possibly faster than VALVe too).

Good Luck

You might be getting the very common .cab error because of the infamous installation bug.

The solution is to select a full installation that includes Counterstrike: Source.

This usually works as far as I know.
