I can?t seem to play the game without crashing
"failed to lock vertex buffer in CMeshDX8::LockVertexBuffer"
and it?s always the same. My specs are:

Pentium 4 3.20ghz
1,00 Gb ram
NVIDIA GeForce 6200 A-LE

Can someone help me out here, the 5 minutes of the game are awesome,
and I'd like to be alble to get a little further.
By the way, please don?t tell me me to get the lastest drivers for my
video card, Been there, done that

If all else fails. Contact support at steampowered.com
you have to make an account (its not connected to steam), they've helped me out before.

Already did that, and the only thing they said was "update your driver"

They Still haven?t ansered the question, but I post any reply from them

"Update driver" could also mean, update drivers. So, is your system software/hardware drivers up to date. Your copy of HL2 is also legit? Sorry for the second Q, but I got to make sure, to narrow it little more.

yep, game of the year edition , and they were if no help, they just gave me a link to their support guide, wich I already followed, and the worst thing is... I also bought at the time , episode 1, so it seems pretty dim for me :(

You did do memory test? File integrity check through Steam? Uninstall/reinstall game (while backing up saved game)? Basically ruled out the routine "Check and balance"?

Ok, I read somewhere, that my problem could be my norton antivirus, but I hope it ain?t true, becuase I hate the idea, of being out there un protected, and if so, can someboby recommend me a program, that won?t crash HL2

Does anybody know, if the mcafee antivirus cause HL2 to crash, like norton, becuase thats an option I want to try

How about you start HL2 and then disconnect from the net and disable Norton? That way you could play the game without the risk of being attacked while unprotected and you would see if it's Norton crashing your game.

McAfee made some other things I had crash. Forgot what but I uninstalled it.

I'd say it would be fine to play Half Life 2 with all your anti-bad software disabled. I do it because my computer sucks. It's not like Steam'll send you viruses.

Norton is not the problem (Talking from experience), don't know about McAffee
