i cant play HL2,even on the lowest settings
it takes an hour to even make a new game or load a game, than the game is soo slow...it runs kinda fine until an NPC talks to me

some1 tell me how to fix this

First time when I played HL2 i played on a pc with this spects:
CPU:AthlonXP 2400+
RAM:256 MB
GRAPHICS:nVIDIA GeForce 4 MX with 64 MB of RAM
And I was able to play it on 800x600 32 bits...

I find it hard to imagine HL2 being laggy on low-settings considering how flexible the engine is and how it can run on old systems (like mine) without lag...

Do you meet the min spec?

if your using windows xp im not surprised. you need anothor stick of 256mb ram to at least play smooth.

well...on G-Mod the game runs smoothly but when i spawn too many NPC's (like 10 npcs) the game lags on me

that could be a hint...not sure...mabey my pc cant handle the facial expressions on the NPC

No one can help you if you don't tell us your PC specs.

Hmmm, there's a possibility. If you were to tell us what your PC is like maybe we could figure out.

CPU:Dell Dimension 2100
Video Card:Nvidia Geforce 2 MX
RAM:128 mbs
OS:Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2

and...i accidently left it on for a year....lol...like 3 years ago

This is why you read the requirements on the box before you buy it. Your CPU is 900 mhz, the minimum requirement is 1.2ghz.

well...the requirments WERE close to my pc specs,so i got it and it lagged,so i decided to get the mods that could run on my pc

but im getting a new pc in a few months :)

The computer's very weak. If you add more RAM, it will be meet the minimum requirements, though. You may also need to clear out spyware and generally take care of your system.

Well, yeah, that's about it. If you want to play HL2 on this computer, you have to at least buy more RAM. Realistically, with Windows XP, 128 MB RAM is only enough if you do nothing more demainding than web browsing / text editing.

Ah, I just checked that the Dell Dimension 2100 (moron manufacturers, giving names instead of specs), it has a Celeron 900 processor. If so, that's quite below the minimum specifications.

Okay... if you buy extra RAM, the game will run, but starting it, and loading times will be very slow. You may experience in-game loading times of over 5 minutes, I guess. Oh, and it will also slow down to a crawl in scenes with several NPCs, or with physics actions. Basically, the performance will remain below what most people would say is playable.

EDIT:

Nahh... doesn't work like that. Minimum requirements given for most games are that, minimum. In this age and day, typically, PCs that have exactly the minimum requirements can barely run the game at lowest settings. Just a notch below minimum will work for some games, but your requirements actually are not close to your specs. A Celeron 900 is not close to a 1.2 GHz Pentium/Athlon, and 128 MB RAM is definitely not close to 256 MB RAM.

In my experience, it's possible to run games if you meet the minimum specs, but your CPU is just a notch below it. If your RAM is below the minimum specs, 95% says you can't run it. If any two components are below minimum specs, you can't run it - which is what you have.
Bottom line, you're out of luck. You'll need to invest in a new PC to get any sort of playable performance.
